Summary

This article contains information on how to complete an Endorsed Post Graduate Qualification LX.

What is the Post Graduate Qualification LX?

The Post Graduate Qualification Learning Experience (LX) is an Endorsed LX that can be used to document completion of a postgraduate qualification at a university or higher education provider.

This LX aims to support self-reflection on how completion of the postgraduate qualification has influenced current or future practice, and to help pharmacists set developmental goals for future practice.

Examples

  • Master of Clinical Pharmacy

  • Graduate Certificate in Diabetes Education and Management to become a Credentialled Diabetes Educator (CDE)

  • Doctorate by research (Doctor of Philosophy or PhD)

The post graduate qualification should be completed while the pharmacist is a registered and practicing pharmacist in Australia or New Zealand.

Post Graduate Qualification LX Process

Prepare

Engage

Reflect

  1. Pharmacist completes the postgraduate qualification

  1. Pharmacist engages in self-reflection to record the impact of qualification on current and/or future pharmacy practice.

  2. Attach certificate of completion

The total time to document the Endorsed Post Graduate Qualification LX should take between 10-15 minutes.

An Endorsed Post Graduate Qualification LX is best completed retrospectively i.e. after the pharmacist has completed the postgraduate qualification.

Learning Experience Details

The Endorsed Post Graduate Qualification LX requires the pharmacist to document the following information:

Date

Document the date that the postgraduate qualification was completed.

Brief Description

Provide a brief description of the qualification. Some examples of the type of information that may included in this section are:

  • The course duration

  • The mode of learning (e.g. online)

  • A summary of the course structure

  • A description of the nature of participant that the course is aimed at ( e.g. Monash clinical educator course- aimed at upskilling pharmacists to take on senior/ education type roles in their practice)

  • The specific enabling competencies that apply to this experience (see practice recognition level section below).

Course Name

Document the name of the postgraduate course completed (available in the university or higher education providers course guide).

Qualification

Qualification level obtained through the postgraduate course (e.g. Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma, Masters Degree, Doctoral Degree).

Educational Institution

Document the name of the university or higher education provider that the qualification was obtained through.

Area of Practice

Provide details of the area of practice associated with the postgraduate qualification. This is a free text area which allows subspecialities or multiple areas to be documented. However the areas documented may align with the ANZCAP speciality areas of practice.

Remember if you are including the LX in a recognition portfolio then the area of practice documented in the LX must align with the speciality area that you are being recognised in.

Practice Recognition Level

The pharmacist should indicate in the LX which of the three levels of recognition (Pharmacist Resident, Pharmacist Registrar or Pharmacist Consultant) they are currently practicing at. When determining which level of recognition aligns with their experience, they are encouraged to refer to the ANZCAP recognition definitions and descriptors. This provides further guidance on markers of performance for each ANZCAP recognition level.

The Post Graduate Qualification Learning Experience is mapped to:

  • Domain 5 of the National Competency Standards Framework for Pharmacists in Australia 2016. Please note that not all the domain 5 indicators listed in this document may be relevant to this Learning Experience.

  • Domain 1, 2 and 7 of the Competence Standards for Pharmacists in Aotearoa New Zealand Pharmacists, 2023. Please note that not all the Domain 1, 2 and 7 behaviours listed in these competence standards may be relevant to this Learning Experience.

Reflection & Goal Development

The purpose of this LX is to support self-reflection on how the experience has influenced current or future professional practice, and to help the pharmacist set developmental goals for future contributions or application of this qualification.

Key Learnings

The pharmacist is asked to independently reflect upon and document the key learnings that they have obtained while completing the postgraduate qualification. This may include identifying strengths and areas for development.

Impact on future practice or development goals

Summarise the impact of the key learnings of the postgraduate course upon current or future professional practice.

Alternatively, the pharmacist may utilize the SMART goal technique to set any further learning or development goals that are identified from their reflection on this experience.

Supporting Evidence

The Post Graduate Qualification LX is an Endorsed LX therefore supporting evidence is mandatory (indicated by the *). Examples of supporting evidence that should be included in this LX includes:

  • Certificate of postgraduate qualification completion (provided by the university or higher education provider) or

  • Academic transcript (provided by the university or higher education provider)

Remember that supporting evidence in an LX is a great way to showcase your skills and knowledge. The LX details and supporting evidence can be shared using a custom portfolio.

Collaborator

Pharmacists may engage in discussion with professional peers, mentors or managers to encourage reflective practice. However, this is an Endorsed LX and therefore the LX should be completed independently by the pharmacist without collaboration

Expiry

Unlike other learning experiences, the postgraduate qualification LX does not have an expiry date. Therefore it can be used in an ANZCAP recognition portfolio at any time after the completion date.

LX Documentation

Evidence of a post graduate qualification is documented directly into the ANZCAP digital platform as an Endorsed Post Graduate Qualification LX. The LX is an electronic template which allows you to directly document all of the required information and attach the supporting evidence.

For further step by step instructions on how to do this please refer to the How to complete a Learning Experience article.
