Summary

This article contains information on how to complete an Endorsed Invited Speaker LX.

What is the Invited Speaker LX?

The Invited Speaker Learning Experience (LX) is an Endorsed LX that can be used to document when a pharmacist has been formally invited by an organisation or professional body to deliver a keynote speech or share their professional experience with a target audience.

It indicates that a pharmacist has been recognised as an expert or person of merit in a particular practice area

This LX aims to support self-reflection on how the experience has influenced current or future practice, and to help pharmacists set developmental goals for future contributions of this nature.

Examples

  • Key note speaker at a national or international conference

  • Graduate representative of a training course speaking about the experience at an information night for prospective trainees

  • Invited as a SME to deliver educational content at an event

  • Panelist at a professional conference or colloquium

Invited Speaker Process

  1. Pharmacist completes the speaking event

  2. Upload evidence of activity.

The total time to document the Endorsed Invited Speaker LX should take between 10-15 minutes.

An Endorsed Invited Speaker LX is best documented after the pharmacist has completed the speaking event.

Learning Experience Details

The Endorsed Invited Speaker LX requires the pharmacist to document the following information:

Date

Document the date that the experience or activity was completed.

Brief Description

Provide a brief description of the experience. Some examples of the type of information that may be included in this section are:

  • A summary of what was involved in the speaking experience

  • An outline of the content that was delivered.

  • The nature of the attending audience.

Professional Organisation/Conference

Provide the name of the organisation, professional body or event who extended the speaking invitation.

Area of Practice

Provide details of the area of practice associated with the speaking event. This is a free text area which allows subspecialities or multiple areas to be documented. However the areas documented may align with the ANZCAP speciality areas of practice.

Remember if you are including the LX in a recognition portfolio then the area of practice documented in the LX must align with the speciality area that you are being recognised in.

Practice Recognition Level

The pharmacist should indicate in the LX which of the three levels of recognition (Pharmacist Resident, Pharmacist Registrar or Pharmacist Consultant) they are currently practicing at. When determining which level of recognition aligns with their experience, they are encouraged to refer to the ANZCAP recognition definitions and descriptors.

The Invited Speaker LX is mapped to:

  • Domain 1 & 4 of the National Competency Standards Framework for Pharmacists in Australia 2016. Please note that not all the domain 1 & 4 indicators listed in this document may be relevant to this Learning Experience.

  • Domain 1, 2, 3 and 4 of the Competence Standards for Pharmacists in Aotearoa New Zealand Pharmacists, 2023. Please note that not all the Domain 1, 2, 3 and 4 behaviours listed in these competence standards may be relevant to this Learning Experience.

Reflection & Goal Development

The purpose of this LX is to support self-reflection on how the experience has influenced current or future professional practice, and to help the pharmacist set developmental goals for future experiences of this nature.

Reflection

The pharmacist is asked to independently reflect and document the strengths and areas for development identified while completing this experience.

Development Goals

The pharmacist is encouraged to utilize the SMART goal technique to set any learning or development goals that are identified from their reflection on this experience.

Supporting Evidence

The Invited Speaker LX is an Endorsed LX therefore supporting evidence is mandatory (indicated by the *). Examples of supporting evidence that should be included in this LX includes:

  • The event program which includes your name, speaking topic and professional profile and/or

  • A copy of the presentation delivered and/or

  • Confirmation from the external organisation of their invitation or thanks for your contributions to the event

Remember that supporting evidence in an LX is a great way to showcase your skills and knowledge. The LX details and supporting evidence can be shared using custom portfolios. So use supporting evidence that best showcases your experience and impact!

Collaborator

Pharmacists may engage in discussion with professional peers, mentors or managers to encourage reflective practice. However, this is an Endorsed Learning Experience (LX) and therefore the LX should be completed independently by the pharmacist without collaboration.

LX Documentation

Evidence of an invited speaker experience is documented directly into the ANZCAP digital platform as an Endorsed Invited Contributor LX The LX is an electronic template which allows you to directly document all of the required information and attach the required supporting evidence.

For further step by step instructions on how to do this please refer to the How to complete a Learning Experience article.
