Summary

This article contains information on how to complete an Endorsed Publication LX.

What is the Publication LX?

The Publication LX can be used to highlight a pharmacist's contribution to scientific, clinical and/or academic progress in their chosen area of practice through evidence of publication of a research project or article in a professional journal or peer-reviewed publication.

The LX also aims to guide self-reflection on the impact of this publication experience on the pharmacists' current or future practice and set development goals for future research experiences.

It is a Workplace Based Assessment (WBA) that can be used for inclusion towards ANZCAP recognition.

If this learning experience is being used for inclusion towards ANZCAP recognition, then the content of the publication should not be included in another type of learning experience also being used for recognition at that level. For example, if the research project had previously been included in a Collaborative Research Activity Learning Experience prior to it progressing to publication, then once it progresses to publication it could be completed as a Publication Activity Learning Experience. But both could not be included for practice recognition at the same level. The Endorsed Publication Learning Experience supersedes the Collaborative or Independent Research Activity Learning Experience, if the content of the learning experience is the same research project.

Examples

  • Published research manuscript in a peer-reviewed journal

  • Published area of practice/topic article in the:

  1. Australian Journal of Pharmacy (AJP),

  2. Australian Pharmacist (AP),

  3. Journal of Pharmacy Practice and Research (JPPR),

  4. Retail Pharmacy (RP),

  5. In The Know (ITK), or

  6. Other as relevant to scope of practice

Publication Process

🧩 Prepare

🎯 Engage

💭 Reflect

  1. Pharmacist completes a research manuscript or article that is accepted in a journal that is relevant to pharmacy practice or their chosen area of practice

  1. Pharmacist engages in self-reflection to record the impact of experience on current and/or future pharmacy practice.

  2. Attach evidence of the publication (optional)

The total time to complete the Endorsed Publication tool should take between 10-15 minutes. However, as the learning experience is retrospective in nature this should occur after the pharmacist has completed the publication to be able to reflect on the entire experience.

Practice Recognition Level

The pharmacist should indicate on the learning experience tool which of the three levels of practice recognition (resident, register, consultant) they are currently practicing at or a candidate for.

The Publication Learning Experience is mapped to Domain 5 of the National Competency Standards Framework for Pharmacists in Australia 2016.

Please refer to the ANZCAP recognition descriptors article for the further guidance on markers of performance for each ANZCAP recognition level. Please note that not all the domain 5 indicators listed in this document may be relevant to this Learning Experience.

Collaborator

Pharmacists may have engaged in discussion with professional peers, mentors or managers to encourage reflective practice. However, this is an Endorsed Learning Experience and therefore the final submission should be completed by the pharmacist without collaboration.

Forms and Templates

The Publication tool is available on the ANZCAP digital platform. Ideally pharmacists will enter relevant information into the digital tool after completion of the course.

Alternatively, pharmacists may use a tool from their own workplace and upload it to the digital platform where they can then confirm completion of an Endorsed Learning Experience.

For further details on how to complete a Learning Experience on the ANZCAP digital platform please refer to the How to complete a Learning Experience article.
