What is the
IndependentAutonomous TEACH LX?
The Independent Autonomous Education Development and/or Delivery (TEACH) is an Independent Autonomous Learning Experience (LX) and can be used to document and guide self-reflection of a pharmacist's contribution to the development of education material or resources and/or delivery of educational content to a group of learners.
It is a Workplace Based Assessment (WBA) tool that can be used for inclusion towards ANZCAP recognition.
The main outcome of the tool LX is to record evidence of current professional practice in a situation that utilizes a combination of skills and knowledge including (but exclusive to); communication, expert knowledge, mentorship, presentation and group learning facilitation in a chosen professional area.
Examples
Developing content for a Society of Hospital Pharmacist foundation seminar on a chosen topic
Developing education content for pharmacists or pharmacy assistants
Facilitating a university undergraduate or intern training workshop
Developing content for an introduction learning package for new pharmacists rotating into your practice area
Developing education content for onboarding new staff into your pharmacy

The pharmacist identifies a situation where they have been involved in the development or delivery of educational material. Ensuring that the practice recognition level and clinical setting/topic that the TEACH is to focus on is appropriate.

The total time to complete the Independent Autonomous TEACH tool LX should take between 10-15 minutes. However, the educational development and/or delivery is likely to have occurred over an extended period of time prior to the tool LX being completed. |
Choosing a TEACH Situation
There There is a wide variety of educational situations that may be appropriate for reflection using the Independent Autonomous TEACH tool. LX See some suggested examples above. The pharmacist may be involved in development, delivery or both development and delivery of the education material. Ultimately the exact scenario, role played, and the skills expected by the pharmacist will vary depending on the practice recognition level they are aiming to meet.

Domain 5 of the National Competency Standards Framework for Pharmacists in Australia 2016. Please note that not all the domain 5 indicators listed in this document may be relevant to this Learning Experience.
Domain 1, 2, 3, 4 and 7 of the Competence Standards for Pharmacists in Aotearoa New Zealand Pharmacists, 2023. Please note that not all the Domain 1, 2, 3, 4 and 7 behaviours listed in these competence standards may be relevant to this Learning Experience.
The pharmacist must identify a TEACH opportunity that applies to the their current level of practice recognition that they are currently performing at or working towards ((e.g. ANZCAP resident, register , or consultant) to include in the Independent TEACH Learning Experience. and area of specialty.

Complexity
In some scenarios the same type of education development or delivery may be used for pharmacists aiming for different levels of practice recognition. However, the complexity and expected knowledge, skills and role will vary.
Collaborator
Pharmacists may have engaged in discussion with professional peers, mentors or managers to encourage reflective practice. However, this is an Independent Autonomous Learning Experience and therefore the final submission should be completed by the pharmacist without collaboration.
Reflection & Goal Setting
The pharmacist is encouraged to utilize the SMART goal technique to develop any learning or development goals that are identified from self-reflection after the experience.
Forms and Templates
The Evidence of the TEACH tool is available on activity is documented directly into the ANZCAP Digital platform. Ideally pharmacists will enter relevant information into the digital tool after completion of the TEACH experience. Alternatively, pharmacists may use TEACH tools from their own workplace and upload it to the digital platform where they can then confirm completion of an Independent Learning Experiencedigital platform as an Autonomous Learning Experience (LX). If ANZCAP members wish to use a TEACH form from their own organisation, the completed form may be uploaded into the Supporting Evidence section of the LX. (Please note that for the LX to become validated the candidate must still complete all sections marked with an asterisk *).
