Summary

This article describes ANZCAP Programs available to ANZCAP members.

ANZCAP Programs

Pharmacist can currently achieve ANZCAP Recognition via one of two merit based ANZCAP Programs. The various programs provides flexibility and choice for ANZCAP members practicing in a diverse range of regions and scopes of practice to achieve recognition.

The ANZCAP programs available for pharmacists to achieve ANZCAP recognition are:

  • Independent

  • Training

Pharmacists with existing industry recognitions of advanced practice prior to the ANZCAP conception have been recognised through the Foundation Program.

Independent Program

Candidates achieve ANZCAP recognition by completing an Independent Program at their own workplace. The Independent Program allows individuals flexibility by using a combination of Core and Elective Learning Experiences to complete a Recognition Portfolio and achieve their chosen ANZCAP recognition.

Completion of Learning Experiences(LX) is supported by multi-disciplinary peers.

The Independent Program offers support for pharmacists to achieve recognition as a Resident, Registrar and Consultant.

Please refer to the Independent Program Recognition article for further details on the LX requirements for an Independent Recognition Portfolio for each ANZCAP Recognition level.

Training Program

Candidates achieve ANZCAP recognition by completing a Training Program at an accredited workplace. The Training Program contains a specified curriculum of Core Learning Experiences to complete a Recognition Portfolio and achieve the chosen ANZCAP recognition.

Completion of Learning Experiences is supported by accredited workplace specific program leads and preceptors.

Examples of current training programs include:

  • Society of Hospital Pharmacists of Australia (SHPA) Resident Training Program

  • Society of Hospital Pharmacists of Australia (SHPA) Registrar Training Program

Currently there is no approved training program available to obtain ANZCAP Consultant recognition.

For further details on how to gain access to a Training Program please refer to the SHPA Training Program website.

Pharmacists may obtain the different ANZCAP recognition levels via a combination of the different programs throughout their career. For example:

  • A pharmacist may obtain their Resident recognition via the Independent Program and then obtain an SHPA Registrar Training (formally ATR) position so switch to the Training program to obtain their Registrar Recognition

  • Alternatively a pharmacist may obtain their Resident and Registrar recognition via the training program and then their Consultant recognition via the independent program

Learning Experiences (LX)

A Learning Experience or LX is a type of Workplace Based Assessment (WBA) tool that a pharmacist can use to record evidence of professional practice at a chosen ANZCAP Recognition level (e.g. Resident, Registrar, Consultant).

Learning Experiences are the building blocks used to build a recognition portfolio and achieve ANZCAP recognition.

For further information on Learning Experiences and how to use them please refer to the Learning Experiences article.
