Summary

This article contains information on how to complete an Endorsed External Organisation Representation.

What is the External Organisation Representation LX?

The External Organisation Representation tool Learning Experience (LX) can be used to highlight a pharmacist's recognition by an external body or committee that individual is practicing as a subject matter expert. It indicates that a pharmacist has contributed to their area of practice in a role outside of their direct workplace by holding a role on a committee or professional organisation that is not part of their primary place of employment.

It is an Endorsed Learning Experience tool (LX) that can be used for inclusion towards ANZCAP recognition.

The tool LX also aims to guide self-reflection on the impact of this role on the pharmacists' current or future practice and set development goals for future experiences.

Examples

  • Appointed member of the SHPA AdPha Leadership committee in a chosen practice area

  • Member of a state or federal government advisory committee

  • Committee member for a pharmacy member organization eg branch committee or board sub committee

  • Member of a medication safety committee at an aged care facility

  • Board director role of a organization relevant to your scope of practice

External Organisation Representation Process

🧩 Prepare

🎯 Engage

💭 Reflect

  1. Pharmacist is invited to be a member or hold a role at an organisation outside of their primary place of employment. The offer of this position is in recognition of their experience or skills in their chosen area of practice.

  1. Pharmacists holds the position/membership for a significant period of time

  1. Pharmacist engages in self-reflection to record the impact of experience on current and/or future pharmacy practice.

  2. Attach evidence of the role (optional)

Tip

The total time to complete the Endorsed External Organisation Representation tool LX should take between 10-15 minutes. However, as this learning experience is retrospective in nature this should occur after the pharmacist has held the position/membership for a significant enough time to allow them to engage in self-reflection.

Practice Recognition Level

The pharmacist should indicate on the learning experience tool LX which of the three levels of practice recognition (resident, register, consultant) they are currently practicing at or a candidate for.

The External Organisation Representation Learning Experience is mapped to:

  • Domain 1 & 4 of the National Competency Standards Framework for Pharmacists in Australia 2016.

Please refer to the ANZCAP recognition descriptors article for the further guidance on markers of performance for each ANZCAP recognition level.
  • Please note that not all the domain 1 & 4 indicators listed in this document may be relevant to this Learning Experience.

  • Domain 1, 2, 3 and 4 of the Competence Standards for Pharmacists in Aotearoa New Zealand Pharmacists, 2023. Please note that not all the Domain 1, 2, 3 and 4 behaviours listed in these competence standards may be relevant to this Learning Experience.

Please refer to the ANZCAP recognition descriptors article for the further guidance on markers of performance for each ANZCAP recognition level.

Collaborator

Pharmacists may have engaged in discussion with professional peers, mentors or managers to encourage reflective practice. However, this is an Endorsed Learning Experience and therefore the final submission should be completed by the pharmacist without collaboration.

Forms and Templates

The External Organisation Representation tool is available on the ANZCAP digital platform. Ideally pharmacists will enter relevant information into the digital tool after completion of the course.

Alternatively, pharmacists may use a tool from their own workplace and upload it to the digital platform where they can then confirm completion of Evidence of the being on an external organisation is documented directly into the ANZCAP digital platform as an Endorsed Learning Experience (LX).   For further details step by step instructions on how to complete a Learning Experience on the ANZCAP digital platform do this please refer to the How to complete a Learning Experience article.
