include a completed professional practice assessment tool as a Collaborative Learning Experience.

What is the Professional Practice Assessment Tool LX?

The Professional Practice Assessment Tool LX allows pharmacists to record the completion of either the Clinical Competency Achievement Tool (ClinCAT

...

) or the Professional Practice Standards (PPS) 2023 Tool. These tools are used to assess a pharmacist's performance in delivering high-quality, safe, reliable and evidence-based healthcare services. It can be used for inclusion towards ANZCAP recognition.

The Clinical Competency Achievement Tool (ClinCAT) is a tool used to facilitate peer evaluation of a

...

pharmacist's practice through a snapshot of their day-to-day practice.

...

The main outcome of the interaction between pharmacist and collaborator should be to promote the pharmacist to engage in self-reflection of current practice.

Clinical Competency Achievement Tool (ClinCAT) Process

🧩 Prepare

🗓️ Observe

💭 Reflect

  1. The pharmacist arranges a time suitable with the collaborator (trained ClinCAT evaluator) to engage in the ClinCAT process. The pharmacist and collaborator should also confirm the practice recognition level and clinical setting/topic that the pharmacist is currently working towards.

  1. The pharmacist completes the self-assessment component of the ‘Clinical Competency Achievement Tool for Australian Pharmacists’.

  1. The collaborator (trained ClinCAT evaluator) observes the pharmacist for 1 to 2 hours during a period that reflects their most common professional role.

  1. The collaborator (trained ClinCAT evaluator) completes the evaluation assessment component of the ‘Clinical Competency Achievement Tool for Australian Pharmacists’.

  1. The pharmacist and collaborator (trained ClinCAT evaluator) complete the reflection and feedback session and use this discussion to complete a professional development plan (final two pages of the achievement tool). Ideally this should happen within a reasonable time after the observation period to ensure both pharmacist and collaborator can recall key events.

Tip

The total time for a ClinCAT should take between 2 to 3 hours.
