Summary
This article contains information on how to complete an Endorsed Academic Assessment LX.
What is the Academic Assessment LX?
The Academic Assessment Learning Experience (LX) is an Endorsed LX that can be used to document completion of an assessment as part of a post graduate programme. While it may cover the same content as features in other learning experiences, i.e. a case report, it differs from a collaborative assessment in that the evaluation and feedback are provided formally as opposed to this occurring through discussion with a collaborator
This LX aims to support self-reflection on the impact of this assessment on their current practice, and to help pharmacists set relevant and useful developmental goals.
Choosing an appropriate Academic Assessment for this LX
The Academic Assessment lx is specific to assessments completed as part of a programme of post graduate study. If you have completed an assessment of competency as part of a course targeting a specific skill or accreditation this should be recorded as a Short Specialisation Course. The assessment must have a strong relevance to the pharmacist's workplace or professional role. Once the post graduate study has been completed in its entirety, this may be recorded as a separate LX - Post Graduate Qualification
Examples
Any assessment undertaken in the course of post graduate study and suitable aligned to a pharmacist's current role may be utilised for this LX.
Some examples of potentially appropriate post graduate study include
Graduate Certificate/ Graduate Diploma/ Master of Clinical Pharmacy
Master of Public Health
Master of Cancer Sciences

The Pharmacist identifies an assessment required as part of their post graduate study programme which is suitable aligned with their role
The Pharmacist completes the academic assessment.
Pharmacist engages in self-reflection to record the impact of the course content and assessment on current and/or future pharmacy practice.
Upload certificate of completion
The total time to document the Academic Assessment LX should take between 10-15 minutes.
An Academic Assessment LX is best completed retrospectively after the pharmacist has undertaken the assessment and received their results.
Learning Experience Details
The Academic Assessment LX requires the pharmacist to document the following information:
Date
Document the date that the assessment was undertaken
Brief Description
Provide a brief description of the experience. Some examples of the type of information that may be included in this section are:
The programme of study within which the academic assessment sits
The content/material being assessed
The nature of the assessment e.g. Assignment/ Short answer quiz/ Presentation
The mode of learning (e.g. online)
The specific enabling competencies that apply to this experience (see practice recognition level section below).
Course Name
Document the name of the course within which the Academic Assessment sits.
Educational Institution
Document the name of the university, professional body or higher education facility that the assessment is provided by.
Area of Practice
Provide details of the area of practice associated with the course. This is a free text area which allows subspecialities or multiple areas to be documented. However the areas documented may align with the ANZCAP speciality areas of practice.
Remember if you are including the LX in a recognition portfolio then the area of practice documented in the LX must align with the speciality area that you are being recognised in.
Practice Recognition Level
The pharmacist should indicate in the LX which of the three levels of recognition (Pharmacist Resident, Pharmacist Registrar or Pharmacist Consultant) they are currently practicing at. When determining which level of recognition aligns with their experience, they are encouraged to refer to the ANZCAP recognition definitions and descriptors.
The Academic Assessment Learning Experience is mapped to:
Domain 1, 2 & 5 of the National Competency Standards Framework for Pharmacists in Australia 2016. Please note that not all the domain 1 & 5 indicators listed in this document may be relevant to this Learning Experience.
Domain 1, 2 and 4 of the Competence Standards for Pharmacists in Aotearoa New Zealand Pharmacists, 2023. Please note that not all the Domain 1, 2 and 4 behaviours listed in these competence standards may be relevant to this Learning Experience.
Reflection & Goal Development
The purpose of this LX is to support self-reflection on how the experience has influenced current or future professional practice, and to help the pharmacist set developmental goals for future contributions or application of the learning from this course.
Key Learnings
The pharmacist is asked to independently reflect and document on the key learnings that they have obtained while completing the assessment. This may include identifying strengths and areas for development.
Impact on future practice or development goals
The pharmacist is asked to summarise what impact the key learnings of the course have had on their current or future professional practice.
Alternatively, the pharmacist may utilize the SMART goal technique to set learning or development goals as are identified from their reflection upon this experience.
Collaborator
Pharmacists may engage in discussion with professional peers, mentors or managers to encourage reflective practice. However, this is an Endorsed Learning Experience (LX) and therefore the LX should be completed independently by the pharmacist without collaboration.
Supporting Evidence
The Academic Assessment LX is an Endorsed LX therefore supporting evidence is mandatory (indicated by the *). Examples of supporting evidence that should be included in this LX include:
Returned/Completed Assessment including result obtained and/or assessor feedback (provided by the university, professional body or higher education provider)
Remember that supporting evidence in an LX is a great way to showcase your skills and knowledge. The LX details and supporting evidence can be shared using custom portfolios. So use supporting evidence that best showcases your experience and impact!
LX Documentation
Evidence of the Academic Assessment is documented directly into the ANZCAP digital platform as an Academic Assessment LX. The LX is an electronic template which allows you to directly document all of the required information and attach the required supporting evidence.
For further step by step instructions on how to do this please refer to the How to complete a Learning Experience article.
